| Japanese is a fantastic language with many linguistic possibilities. It is mostly structured around respect; almost every expression can be said at least five ways, depending upon formality.
Let us begin with basic sentence structure. Unlike English, Japanese is a subject-object-verb language. This means, rather than saying "John eats apples", you say "john apples eats" There are also interesting articles known as 'particles', which are completely void in English. There is 'wa', which functions as a subject marker. In addition, there is "wo" (pronounced "o") that functions as an object marker.
Thus "john eats apples" would be "john wa ringo wo tabeta". Ringo is apple, and tabeta is ate. Wa functions as a marker to let you know John is the subject of the sentence. Wo lets you know what it is that John ate.
Verbs in Japanese are interesting: There is no future or present tense. There is simply not-past-tense. "taberu" may mean "eat", or it may mean "eats" or even "will eat".
Your first assignment will be to translate 1. "I drink soda" 2. "I run often" 3. "John wa nama tamago wo taberu"
The vocabulary:
drink = nomu I = watashi Soda = soda nama = raw often = yoku run = hashiru tamago = egg

In Japanese, the verb will always end the sentence, no matter how weird it sounds. - Sgt. Pepper wrote:

Almost. Very close. Forgot the wo though.

| The factuality of the statement is irrelevant.
Now try #3. Also "watashi wa yoku mizu wo nomu" "john wa mainichi taitei ringo wo taberu"
mainichi = every day mizu = water taberu = eat taitei = usually
